Jerez, 6 May: LCR racer Stefan Bradl was back on track today in Jerez for one day of testing after yesterday’s race which saw the German ending a very tough weekend with a DNF. The 23-year-old, riding the RC213V no. 6, began his intended test programme in sunny conditions working on front-end adjustments and Bridgestone tyres. At the end of the day Bradl finished 9th fastest with 1’39.894 (71 laps).
Stefan: “Today was a very intense day for us. We worked on various aspects of the set-up trying to find a solution for our front-end issues. We did not focus on the quickest lap time but still we have to improve the bike as we lose too much time entering the corners. However I am optimistic that, in Le Mans, we can go back to our normal speed”
Jerez, 5 May: LCR racer Stefan Bradl endured a tough weekend at Jerez de la Frontera circuit crashing out of the Grand Prix of Spain on the third lap of 27. During practice the German had struggled with lack of front-end feeling, but by yesterday evening he seemed to have partially solved the issue which then returned for the race. Bradl was racing in seventh when he lost the front at turn nine. He walked away from the crash unharmed but hugely disappointed.
Stefan: “Basically we were not able to fix our problems throughout the weekend and even today I could not ride the bike in a smooth way. I early crashed because, since the beginning of the race, I could not push in the front and this overall package did not suit my riding style. This tough weekend ended with a crash and I feel sorry for everybody. We must forget this race and go ahead working hard for Le Mans GP”.
Jerez, 4 May: this morning session at sweltering Jerez de la Frontera circuit was the third of four practice periods over the race weekend and the final one in which MotoGP riders can classified for qualifying. LCR Honda racer Stefan Bradl had to cope with some front-end issues which saw the German qualified only 11th in the morning practice. For the first time this season, Bradl had to contest for both qualifying sessions but his remarkable progression and determination secured him the 8th spot on the grid (1’39.847).
Stefan: “I made this second day in Jerez very exciting for everybody in the Team. Obviously we are far away from the front group and this is not our standard pace. I was expecting to go faster today and to perform only in Q2 but something stopped us. We struggled very much with the front-end which prevented me to push more than this. After yesterdays’ crash, we tried to get some confidence back but it seems that we are not taking the right direction to improve the front feeling”.
Jerez, 3 May: opening day of Grand Prix of Spain got underway today at sunny Jerez circuit but the LCR Honda racer Stefan Bradl was not particularly pleased with his performance on the Iberian track as he finished the day 11th. In this morning first free session the German commenced with a 7th fastest lap time but he could not improve his pace in the afternoon session after suffering a slight crash.
Stefan: “Today has been a tough day for us as we are a bit far from the guys in the front. I also crashed in the afternoon session but I am okay. This morning, since the beginning, the bike set-up was good and we expected to do even better in the afternoon but, at the end, it was completely the opposite. We tried different tyres but we took the wrong direction losing the rear grip and, automatically, we lose even the confidence with the front-end. So we came back to the same setting and same tyres choice of this morning improving the overall situation but it was not perfect yet. I tried to push to reduce the gap and I lost the front crashing out. Actually we have been a bit unlucky today but I am not particularly worried because we do have the capacity to improve in tomorrow’s practice”.
Jerez, 2 May: the MotoGP circus heads to Southern Spain this weekend to contest the Gran Premio de España at the popular track in Jerez. LCR Honda MotoGP’s Stefan Bradl has looked continuously fast in both preceding race weekends, yet will be hoping to challenge the top riders a bit closer. The German claimed a solid 11 points after a strong ride to fifth place in Austin.
Stefan: “I am really looking forward to the first round in Europe. We have tested the bike there in March gathering useful data for the race weekend and I was comfortable with the bike’s overall package. I am happy to be back in Europe because we return to the standard time schedule, and the atmosphere especially in Spain is very warm. After my DNF in Qatar I was happy to battle with the guys in the front in Austin which is a very technical race track. So I think we will arrive in Jerez with a good base and high motivation to maintain our position in the top five.”
Austin, 21 April: inaugural Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas got underway at 2pm local time in hot conditions with the premier class rookie HRC rider Marquez becoming the youngest ever race winner in MotoGP history ahead Pedrosa and Lorenzo. A lightning start for LCR Honda MotoGP’s Stefan Bradl from the second row, allowed the German to go second. Bradl put in a strong performance and was more than pleased with fifth having hoped for a top five result this weekend.
Stefan: “We can be happy today because we have done a good job. I took a very good start but I was not so aggressive as some other riders at the beginning because, on full fuel, I could feel some sliding in the front so I decided to remain calm and focused. At 13 laps to go Crutchlow passed me as he was quite fast in the middle of the race especially in the entry of the corners. We could not match his performance in the entry of the curves but we had a good speed in the exit. I think we have done our best and P5 is the result we were expecting here at COTA”
Austin, 20 April: under new regulations from the start of the 2013 season, qualifying is divided into two segments and LCR racer Stefan Bradl secured a QP2 phase at Austin race track thanks to his overall best lap times from across the opening trio of practice sessions. The German impressed with his third position in yesterday first outing at the new MotoGP venue, and he repeated his strong performance even in the qualifying session posting the 5th fastest lap time on his RC213V.
Stefan: “Today it was a good day for us because we could use the full potential of the hard tyre which is a positive sign for us. In the fourth practice we were able to make a longer distance evaluating the reaction of the hard tyre. We improved our consistency and I am pleased with the bike set-up so far because we can be fast from the first lap till the end of the race… Today’s qualifying went well but I am not totally happy with the result. However top five is our target and we can stay with the guys up in the pack”.
Austin, 19 April: carrying on his form from testing at the Texan track in March, LCR racer Stefan Bradl posted the third fastest lap time (2’06.173) on the opening day of the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas. The former Moto2 World Champion, on the LCR Honda RC213V, moved into the top three in this afternoon 45-minute session after a tough first outing in the morning due to the poor grip conditions.
Stefan: “Today has been a strange day for us. This morning the track conditions were pretty bad and the grip level was very poor so we could not use our advantage from the test. At the end of this morning first session, I was very disappointed but, in the afternoon, the grip was much better and the sun was shining so I could ride a lot faster keeping the top positions. We could use the data and the references obtained in the test but we still have to adjust the race set-up especially when we are on used tyres”
Austin, 18 April: this weekend the MotoGP contingent heads to the USA for the second round of the 2013 season at the Circuit of the Americas, in Texas, where a bunch of premier class riders had the chance to test the race track for a private test in March. Even LCR racer Stefan Bradl has the advantage of having tested at COTA and he is in the hunt for a good finish in Texas after a strong start to his second season in MotoGP went awry in Qatar.
Before taking the track, the German, alongside Livio Suppo (HRC Team Principal) met 200 students at the University of Texas taking part to an Engineering Lecture which deeply impressed the US students fascinated by the Honda RC213V displayed on the stage.
Bradl: “In the first race in Qatar we demonstrated that we have the pace for a top-five result. We are not far away from the front group but unfortunately the first GP finished badly for us. After the bad experience in Qatar I am really looking forward to Austin and I presume the things will be much better there. I know the track already because I was there for the private test some weeks ago and I strongly want to repeat our speed and consistency. This race will be fun for us and for the fans. For the second time, I turned into a teacher for a group of University students yesterday and I had a good time: these guys are very intelligent and really passionate in motorbikes so I happy to be on the stage with my bike”.
